Dylan Bates, known as The Final Cut Bro, began his journey in video editing in 2005 at the age of nine. Under the influence of his father, Jeff Bates, a filmmaker and director, Dylan had numerous opportunities to gain experience on professional sets, taking on roles such as an actor, grip, and eventually, Director of Photography (DOP). Despite his diverse experiences, Dylan’s true passion has always been in post-production.

Over the years, Dylan has had the opportunity to edit a wide range of content, from short films to episodic television broadcasted globally. Through these experiences, he has gained extensive knowledge of Final Cut Pro and its companion software, Apple Motion.

In July 2020, Dylan began sharing his knowledge of video editing on YouTube, initially as a hobby. Since then, his channel has grown significantly, reaching over 61,000 subscribers as of 2024, attracting a community of filmmaking enthusiasts eager to learn and share their passion.

Dylan is now a certified instructor for Final Cut Pro and Apple Motion. He has also been a speaker at the Final Cut Pro Creative Summit, where he collaborated with peers to exchange ideas and techniques for advancing the art of editing. He is committed to fostering a learning environment characterized by positivity, optimism, and kindness, reflecting his Christian values.
